Summer Reading Series

Read any good books lately? Our team is diving into multiple high-impact books this summer and we are inviting you, your leadership team, and all staff to join us!

What is a Mastermind Group?

Mastermind groups offer a combination of brainstorming, education, peer accountability and support in a group setting to sharpen your business and personal skills. A mastermind group helps you and your mastermind group members achieve success. Participants challenge each other to set powerful goals, and more importantly, to accomplish them. The group requires commitment, confidentiality, willingness to both give and receive advice and ideas, and support each other with total honesty, respect and compassion. Mastermind group members act as catalysts for growth, devil’s advocates and supportive colleagues. This is the essence and value of mastermind groups. This is NOT a microwaved plan for growth, we will be jumping into the crock pot and building a sustainable plan toward change. You will move from being goal oriented to being GROWTH oriented, ensuring tomorrow is better because you worked on you today.

What Great Principals Do Differently By Todd Whitaker Register Now

Why I Love this book: All schools, regardless of size or grade level, face the same issues. Every principal must create a plan to make a difference in the school for the teachers and students. Whitaker’s overall focus on the importance of teachers as expressed in several of the “eighteen things” is most helpful. The idea that respecting, involving, and developing staff is the best way to improve a school is exciting and can be executed. Whitaker’s approach is certain to enhance the learning environment regardless of any school’s improvement goals. This book will teach you and your team how to value people over programs and give the best of themselves to their work.

The Speed of Trust, By Stephen M. R. Covey Register Now

Why I Love This Book: The year after I read The Speed of Trust I was so enamored with the book that I provided copies to all of  my teachers and invited them to do a book study with me.  I credit The Speed of Trust  as a major factor in building that school culture based on trust. Another  reason why I love this book is because it gets to the root of ethical behavior and integrity, which are the key competencies for organizational success.  Furthermore, the book is full of interesting examples of how trusted leaders are able to do things faster and better, with a transformative impact on a school’s climate and teamwork. In addition, the book does a lot of “how to” teaching that helps readers to self-reflect and make changes to garner more trust within and outside the organization.  As the many endorsements by top level professionals say “This is a must read.”

Facilitator: Budd Dingwall, Ed. S.

Schedule: Thursdays at 9:30am

Dates: 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 7/27

Cost: $99 (Includes book, executive Summary, videos and one individual coaching session)

Multipliers By Liz Wiseman Register Now

Why I love this book: When I heard Liz Wiseman say, “Diminishers use their intelligence as a weapon, and multipliers use their intelligence as a tool,” I knew I needed to learn more from her. Wiseman goes on in Multipliers to talk about how even people with the best of intentions can stymie the work of their colleagues and teammates by accidentally creating roadblocks to their gifts and creativity. I think that this book speaks directly to educators, who live in a space where almost everyone is in it to help kids, yet there is an abundance of opinions on the best way to do so. Read this book with me if you want strategies you can use to help everyone around you get better.

Facilitator: Geoff Gorski

Dates: 6/20, 6/27, 7/4 (via video), 7/11, 7/18, 7/25
